Hey pixels, guess what? It’s Valentine’s Day!! Are you ready? Have you bought a nice present? Or not yet? (Just in case the answer is no, I leave you here the happiest and nicest gift guide ever).
But there’s more!! Today I bring you a last, easy, quick and edible gift idea!! A red velvet mug cake!! Maybe is a little too obvious (you know, sweet and red), but it’s delicious and it’s ready in less than 5′, so it’s perfect to have breakfast at bed with your crush… You can make it while he/she is still sleeping and give him/her a surprise!!! (you’re welcome, my pixels) 😉
And here is the recipe!! 😉
Ingredients (this recipe is for one, if you’re making 2 you’ll have to double the ingredient amounts):
- 3 tablespoons soy milk
- 1/2 teaspoon white vinegar
- 4 tablespoons flour
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon cocoa powder
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- pinch of salt
- 1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil
- 5 drops red food coloring
- decoration: powdered sugar
Directions:
In a large mug, whisk together the milk and vinegar. Set aside. (This is how buttermilk is made)
In a small bowl, whisk together dry ingredients. Add to the milk mixture and add the olive oil and red food coloring. Whisk until smooth.
Cook in the microwave on high for 1′. And that’s all: it can’t be easier.
Decorate with powdered sugar before serving the cake. You can make the two cakes in separate mugs, or try to make one big cake in a bigger bowl, to share it!! Can it be more romantic?? Doubt it…
How do you celebrate Valentine’s Day, my happy pixels?? Do you make anything special? Please, let me know in the comments below.

Happy belated Valentine’s Day! This idea has always fascinated us. 🙂 We’ve not tried it but might at some point if we can adjust it with maple syrup. It looks really moist! What is the wattage of your microwave?

Thank you!! Honestly, I have no idea about the wattage of my microwave, it was a present and I didn’t asked…
You should try this recipe: just the colour is awesome! 😉

Sorry to be a pain, but it might make a difference in the cooking time. Yes! Do you think we could use a drop of beetroot juice to colour it instead? 🙂

Not sure… 700w maybe??
I haven’t tried with beetroot juice, but I don’t think it will be a problem 🙂
